Capricornia Region is 1 of 12 regions created to provide and manage representative school sport in Queensland from the early 1980s. While each of these regions is a unit of Education Queensland, any student from any affiliated school, regardless of the school's systemic membership, is eligible to trial for selection in the region's team of choice.
Capricornia region provides opportunities for students in schools from an area bounded by Keppel Coast in the east, Mackay in the north, Central Highlands and the coalfields in the west and Port Curtis in the south. These are generalised boundaries only.
Affiliated primary schools are listed elsewhere as are affiliated secondary schools. Multi-class athletes are encouraged to trial for selection in any regional team in sports in which they are confident of performing at a representative level. Places are reserved for multi-class athletes in regional cross country, swimming and track and field teams. To be eligible for selection as a multi-class athlete, a student must possess a disability classification.
