10-12 years

Mackay District Sport within the primary sector was formally known as the Pioneer Zone. However, during the 1980’s, Mackay District Primary School Sport (MDPSS) took on greater significance with the formation of various sub-districts. Presently, Mackay District encompasses six sub-districts ranging west from the Pioneer Valley, north to Calen Sub-district as far as Bloomsbury State School and south to Sarina Sub-district at Carmila State School with Mackay city being divided into three sub-districts; namely, Northern Suburbs, Southern Suburbs and Cumberland. Each affiliated Sub-district encompasses both state and private schools with approximately 10,500 students being eligible to represent MDPSS in 25 different sports categories. All of these students can excel at trial selection days and reach further representative honours by advancing to the Capricornia Regional Team and hopefully onto Queensland State level. MDPSS has an ongoing financial sponsorship partnership with Magpies Sporting Complex with their logos on our team apparel and dress uniforms. However, Mackay District Sport is presently reviewing our management structure and uniform design through mutual discussions with our secondary sector to encompass the changes regarding 12 years and under competition from 2015.

13-19 years

The 13 - 19yrs Mackay School Sports District stretches from Calen to the North, Pioneer Valley to the West and Sarina to the South. The district consists of twelve schools which cater for over 7 500 students. Mackay District School Sport (MDSS) has a proud history of providing high standard athletes for the Capricornia Region and regularly provides the majority of athletes that participate at State Titles for Capricornia in the 13 -19yr age bracket. Mackay district’s colours are maroon, white and yellow, and our logo is the eagle. We have compulsory travel wear that participating students wear to and from Capricornia trials. All team sports have specific playing uniforms generally supplied by MDSS. Students participating in individual sports, wear the MDSS travel shirt to compete, while Athletics and Cross Country students generally purchase a MDSS singlet, however may participate in the MDSS travel shirt. MDSS is committed to providing our quality athletes with opportunities to showcase their skills at the highest level and aide the realisation of their sporting aspirations.
