Board

Capricornia School Sport Board is one of twelve regional boards across Queensland and was established to act as an administrative body for school sporting activities in the Central Queensland region.

Capricornia covers all schools, state and non-state, from Miriam Vale south to Bloomsbury north and from Anakie west to Yeppoon east.

231 Primary and Secondary schools with over 42,000 students including students with disabilities in both Primary and Secondary.

The Capricornia School Sport Board is an operational Unit within Education Queensland which supports four districts – Central Highlands, Mackay, Port Curtis and Rockhampton with in the Capricornia School Sport Region.

It supports the physical, intellectual and emotional well-being of young people, so they can be productive students and members of their communities.

This is created through the provision of comprehensive school sport programs. The Board’s core purpose is to focus on these sporting programs for students and schools within the various education systems.

The objects for which the Board is established are:

  • to support the Department of Education and Training Sports Strategy;
  • to provide leadership for school sport;
  • to provide opportunities for maximum numbers of school students to participate in school sport competitions;
  • to provide competition at all levels so that each child may participate and develop maximum potential;
  • to provide sporting competition in a healthy, stimulating environment;
  • to increase the range of sports skills for children;
  • to encourage teachers by providing them with opportunities to become proficient in the presentation of school sporting activities;
  • to coordinate and oversee the efforts of the Capricornia School Sport Management Committee;
